Pouco antes de morrer, o poeta e scholar Haroldo de Campos sugeriu ao editor Jacó Guinsburg a publicação do livro "Desejo Colonial", de Robert Young, um dos estudiosos do pensamento pós-colonial que ele particularmente admirava. O livro saiu pela Perspectiva em 2005, em tradução de Sérgio Medeiros, Dirce Waltrick do Amarante e Rafael Azize. Citado com reverência por seus pares, como Terry Eagleton e Peter Burke, entre outros, Robert Young discute no seu livro a história de conceitos importantes como amalgamação e hibridismo, propondo uma releitura crítica do desejo colonial que moveu e ainda move o Ocidente, em sua expansão imperialista.
